Sometimes it's Black Sabbath. Sometimes it's a family farming in Azerbaijan. Sometimes it's just a really good plate of food. We caught up with Missy Dabice and Maxine Steen of Mannequin Pussy to talk about their experience working on The Wrong Girls, and what they like to listen to, watch, and eat when they're stoned.

What was it like working on THE WRONG GIRLS?

MISSY DABICE: It was like being on a music video set where we didn’t have to be the center of attention and just got to sit back and watch the creativity unfold around us. Anyone who has ever been on set knows that you experience simultaneous adrenaline rushes while also experiencing hours of sitting around waiting for the next shot to be set up - it’s sort of like tour, “hurry up and wait.” Best gig in the world though being asked to lip-sync to your own music and getting to watch actors perform their craft. I’ve always compared being in a band to being similar to making a movie - it takes different people, all with different skill sets to come together and create the vision.

MAXINE STEEN: Working on wrong girls was such an incredible experience. I in fact was very very stoned while filming off a lil weed pen. What stuck out to me was how many people it takes to make a movie and was blown away by the hard of work EVERYONE was putting in. It’s hot under those lights and it’s long days but seeing everyone do their thing was kind of mind blowing. Also fun TMI fact, I was wearing latex and drove home as fast as I could but I peed myself as soon as I got home.

What DOES BEING A wRONG GIRL MEAN TO YOU?

MISSY DABICE: It means embracing every single thing that life throws at you - no matter how beautiful or fucked up it is. It also means not forgetting that we are here to play!! And create! And fuck up sometimes!! And get fucked up! And taking fun drugs with your friends! And ultimately letting every experience and emotional trial that you go through be a lesson to how you can be a better and better person and friend to everyone around you. We’re all just here figuring out this shit for the first time, which means we need to have some grace and patience for both ourselves and the people around us.

MAXINE STEEN: Being a wrong Girl to me means flipping false norms on their heads. A wise prophet once said only shooting stars break the mold.

What DO YOU LIKE TO LISTEN TO WHENYOU’RE STONED?

MISSY DABICE: I love to visit old Leonard Bernstein orchestral arrangements, I have some Electric Wizard right now on my turntable, Black Sabbath, Nick Drake, Gessafelstein.... It’s a chaotic mix of possibilities. I tend to like more instrumental music when I’m stoned so I can let my mind wander and bring me ideas.

MAXINE STEEN: When I’m stoned I like to listen to just about everything but depending on the mood I could go from Bob Dylan to Aphex Twin in the blink of an eye. I have the worst adhd and I’ll literally bounce from Michael McDonald to Jack Name to like electric wizard, and then back to bjork. If I could do whatever I wanted to it would be get high and listen to music all day

What DO YOU LIKETO WATCH WHEN YOU’RE STONED?

MISSY DABICE: There are these YouTube channels thats like ASMR cooking and farming and I like to watch this family in Azerbaijan - I think it’s called Country Life Vlog... there’s a few families I visit around the world. I’m obsessed with one day having my own homestead but for now I just watch and learn from other people.

MAXINE STEEN: Been OBSESSED with Garth Marenghis A Dark Place. Pokemon seasons 1 and 2. Something insane like Tetsuo : The Iron Man. Also been watching a lottttt of Sex In The City with my roomie Ben Katzman.

What / WHERE DO YOU LIKETO EAT IN WHEN YOU’RE STONED? WHAT’S YOUR GO TO MEAL?

MISSY DABICE: Hardena in South Philly is the best meal in the city!! I like to get the plate with rice, tempeh/tofu stew, collard greens, and fish. With the sambal red hot sauce. Kinda meal where every bite is better than the last.

MAXINE STEEN: I feel like this may get mentioned but Hardena in Philly is a goated restaurant. Truly untouchable Indonesian food. In LA I gotta give it to proof bakery lol. I’ll go in there so high and lose my cool because everything is so perfect.
